Abrazo Central Family Medicine Residency

The Abrazo Central Family Medicine Residency educates family physicians so they have the skills to work anywhere, in any setting and successfully manage their practice. We focus specifically on training residents for service in rural and underserved areas.

Why Abrazo Central Family Medicine Residency?

The Abrazo Central Family Medicine Residency Program offers the full spectrum of family medicine education. We believe that the family physician should be the foundation of any healthcare system, and we are working to provide better access and higher quality of care to our Arizona communities.

Abrazo Central Family Medicine Residency

  • Is affiliated with the University of Arizona College of Medicine so we provide research opportunities and advanced technologies for our residents
  • Has been educating family physicians since 1978
  • Exposes residents to all areas of medicine, including practice management education with a focus on business
  • Provides quality patient-centered, evidence-based care
  • Fosters residents becoming an integral part of their surrounding community
  • Allows residents to serve as active members of the medical staff

Our Family Medicine Residency Program is different because:

  • There are no competing residencies for inpatient or OB care at Abrazo Central Campus
  • We employ an experienced, dedicated full-time faculty
  • Our residents perform rotations at several surrounding urban and inner city tertiary care hospitals
  • We allow residents time for core didactic conferences and five months for elective time, including international rotations
  • We offer training for residents who plan to work with ACOs
  • We serve a diverse patient population with regard to culture, education, ethnicity and socio-economic status
  • We offer procedural training in OB and ER
  • We have a sports medicine program that includes care of high school and professional athletes for residents aspiring to become “team doctors”
  • We support technology with our:
  • Computerized resident scheduling and procedure documentation
  • Online library and subscriptions to Up-To-Date
  • Monetary allowance toward PDA or iPod/iPad purchase

Our specialized training options extend beyond required curriculum.

We offer:

  • Academics & research
  • Geriatrics
  • Sports medicine
  • Obstetrics with C-section training
  • Procedural training & practice management
