For those who have spent a lifetime unsuccessfully battling obesity, a surgical alternative to weight loss may be the only alternative. Surgical weight loss is the best option for people who are seriously overweight, with a BMI of 40 or more (see BMI calculator), and have not been able to lose weight through diet and exercise.

Paradise Valley Hospital has developed a distinctive program which will guide our patients through the steps necessary to return to active, healthy lifestyles.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a formula that uses weight and height to estimate body fat. The BMI is one factor in determining a person's health risk.

You can calculate your BMI by using the calculator to the right of this page to find out what category you fall into:

  • Underweight
  • Desirable
  • Prone to health risks
  • Obese
  • Extremely obese
